On Monday, March 26, 2012, at approximately 8:34 AM, a Waterloo Police car was involved in an accident at Commercial Street and West 18th Street.

According to witnesses, the Waterloo Police car was westbound on Commercial at W.18th Street when it was hit by a vehicle traveling southbound on W.18th street. Witnesses stated the police car had the green light.

The police officer, Kevin Boyland, age 48, of Waterloo was taken to the hospital by the police and treated for minor injuries. The other driver, Bonnie Back, age 64, of Waterloo, was taken by ambulance to the hospital and treated for minor injuries.

Both vehicles had to be towed from the scene. Back was issued a traffic citation for a "red light" violation.
