On Wednesday, April 4, 2012, at approximately 8:35 PM, Waterloo Police attempted to stop a white 2010 Hyundai Santa Fe for a traffic violation.

The driver, Travis Ray Wright, age 18, of 218 Logan Avenue, Waterloo, IA tried to flee from police and after a short pursuit, Wright lost control of the vehicle and struck a tree near the intersection of West 4th Street and Clough Street. The vehicle flipped over and Wright was trapped inside.

Waterloo Fire Rescue arrived on the scene and freed Wright from the vehicle and transported him to Allen Hospital. He was treated for minor injuries and released. He was arrested for Eluding Police and taken to the Black Hawk County Jail.

Today, April 5, 2012 at approximately 2:30 AM, Waterloo Police responded to 205 West 4th Street on report that a vehicle had been stolen from the Westside parking ramp. The victim, Christopher McIntyre, age 55, of Ottumwa, IA stated he parked his 2010 Hyundai Santa Fe in the parking ramp when he came to town on Wednesday. This was the same vehicle that was involved in the pursuit.

Wright has also been charged with Theft in the 1st Degree for stealing the Santa Fe.
