On Wednesday, March 20, 2013 at approximately 11:18 PM, Waterloo Police were dispatched to the 5 Star Snacks and More, 437 Sullivan Avenue, on report of an armed robbery. Witnessed stated a lone male entered the store wearing a mask and displaying a 12 gauge flare gun. Witnesses also gave police a description of a possible get-away vehicle.

A short time later, a vehicle matching the description of the get-away car, was located at the 5 Star Snacks and More, 315 Fletcher Avenue. The vehicle was unoccupied, but the motor was running. Officers kept surveillance on the vehicle until it left the store. The vehicle was observed leaving and was stopped at Fletcher Avenue and Sergeant Road.

The follow-up investigation resulted in the driver of the car, Michael Todd Gillum, Jr. age 20 of Reinbeck, IA being charged with Robbery in the First Degree. He is accused of being the get-away driver in the robbery. Officers later located Casey Lee Pierce, age 19, of 348 Western Avenue, Waterloo and charged him with Robbery in the First Degree. Pierce was the individual who entered the store and committed the robbery.

No money was taken in the robbery and no one was injured. Both suspects are being held in the Black Hawk County Jail.
