Waterloo Police Enforce Speeding Violations in Highway Construction Zones
Wednesday, 20 May 2009 13:53

The Waterloo Police Department will step up their enforcement efforts against motorists found speeding through highway construction zones.  Recently, Waterloo Police officers conducted random checks of various highway construction zones and found several motorists violating the reduce speed signage posted in these areas.  Typically, the speed through these zones is reduced to 55 miles per hour or lower, depending on the highway and the type of work being performed.  The purpose of reducing your speed while driving through these zones is to protect those persons working on the highways.

Fines, which include surcharge and court costs, for violating these speed zones range from $248.00 for driving 1 to 10 miles per hour over the limit, up to $1,370.00 for driving over 25 miles per hour over the limit.  Fines for other violations in highway construction zones, such as passing, careless driving and following to close, will double.

Waterloo Police are asking the motoring public to "give them a brake" by reducing your speed when driving through highway construction zones.
