Patch

On Wednesday, September 30, 2009 shortly after 6 pm, Waterloo Police officers responded to City Liquor and Tobacco at 508 Broadway Street on the report of a robbery that had just occurred.  A witness directed responding officers to 316 Edwards Street where the robbery suspects were located.

Officers learned that 13-year-old Isaah Manuel Zacharias, who was wearing a mask at the time, walked up to the drive-up window at the business shortly after 6 pm, pointed a gun at the clerk and demanded money.   The clerk handed an undisclosed amount of cash over to Zacharias and then Zacharias ran from the store.  No one was injured during this incident and officers later discovered that the weapon, which was recovered, was a BB gun.

The investigation also revealed that Zacharias, 13-year-old Jakwone Watkins and 14-year-old Aaron Nesby develop a plan to commit the robbery.  A fourth person, 13-year-old Jalen Gary, was given some of the money that was taken in the robbery.  All four juveniles list Waterloo addresses.

Zacharias and Watkins are charged with robbery in the first degree and are being held in the Juvenile Detention Center.

Nesby is charged with accessory after the fact and possession of marijuana and is being held at the Juvenile Detention Center.

Gary is charged with accessory after the fact and he was released to his parents.

Photos of the suspects will not be released.
