Administrative Division
  • Administrative Division includes Finance, Computer/Records, Internal Affairs/Personnel, Property/Evidence, and Training
  • The division oversees a 10.5 million dollar annual budget
  • The division is responsible for accounts payable/receivable, payroll and budget preparation, bid preparation and processing and grant applications
  • The division conducts background checks for new employees, internal investigations on existing employees and is responsible for all personnel issues such as insurance and other employee benefits
  • The division is responsible for training all new officers and the monthly in-service training of Waterloo Police Department employees and employees of other law enforcement agencies as well

Information Services
  • The Information Services Unit is comprised of one civilian supervisor and four civilian clerks
  • The unit is responsible for maintaining police records on incidents, arrests and traffic citations
Internal Affairs Unit
  • The Internal Affairs Unit investigates complaints against employees of the Waterloo Police Department
  • Complaints may be filed with the Internal Affairs Unit, any police supervisor or by mail or phone
Training Unit
  • The Waterloo Police training unit is comprised of a lieutenant and an officer and utilizes a number of experienced officers, as well as outside experts, as instructors for in-service training
  • In-service classroom training keeps police officers up-to-date on the latest laws, statutes and ordinances as well as familiarizing them with other agencies and departments, such as the Department of Human Services and the County Attorney’s Office to ensure they can work closely together to serve the citizens of Waterloo
  • 6-on-3-off work schedule allows police one full day of training each month
  • In-service Training fills basic state-mandated requirements to maintain state certification such as firearms qualification, Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and National Crime Information Computer (NCIC) certification
Property Evidence Unit
  • Property / Evidence storage occupies 5,000 square feet of inside storage plus a 30 car garage and bike garage. Presently filled to 95% capacity
  • Approximately 1,100 new items are received into Property/Evidence each month
