Patch

The enforcement initiative for the month of May is “failure to yield to an emergency vehicle.” Iowa code dictates that upon the approach of a squad car, ambulance, or fire truck with the emergency lights or siren activated, the driver of every vehicle shall yield the right of way and shall pull to the right and stop. The total fine for this violation is $195.00.

Members of both the Waterloo Police Department and Waterloo Fire Rescue will be involved in efforts to educate the motoring public in regard to this initiative; police officers will be taking appropriate enforcement action and fire fighters will be reporting observed violations so that the registered owners of violating vehicles can be made aware of the violation.
