In the early morning hours of Saturday, December 22, 2012 Waterloo Police responded to a 911 call of a man down on the ground at 343 Albany Street. While en-route Officers received additional information that a person had possibly been shot at the residence. Responding Officers reported seeing no one on the ground at the residence.

While checking the residence Officers found the front porch door ajar and saw a person lying on the floor inside the porch. This person was later identified as 26 year-old Anthony Delano Gardner of Des Moines, Iowa.

Officers cleared the residence and Waterloo Fire Rescue also arrived on the scene. Waterloo Fire Rescue attemped to render aid to Gardner but was unable to find any signs of life. Gardner was pronounced dead at the scene. Gardner appeared to have suffered a gunshot wound and an autopsy has been scheduled by the State Medical Examiner's Office in Ankney.

This is an on-going homicide investigation and no further information is being released at this time.
