Patch

Waterloo Police are advising citizens to be suspicious when responding to advertisements on Craig's List and other websites offering apartments for rent at lower than normal rates.

Recently the police department has received reports of these advertisements and when possible renters make contact, the advertiser requests money for a down payment to secure the apartment. It is later found that the advertisement was bogus, and the possible renter lost their money.

Always verify whom you are dealing with before making a payment.

If the rental price is too good, it is probably a scam!
