Patch

On Saturday, January 19, 2013 at approximately 8:15 PM, Waterloo Police were sent to 153 Byron Avenue on report of a robbery. The victim, Dennis Fix, had been assaulted and there was blood on his face.

Fix told officers that he had been watching TV when he heard a knock on the door. He did not answer the door and a short time later there was pounding again and the next thing he remembered was being hit with something. Fix reported that his TV and surround sound system had been stolen.

Fix was transported to the hospital for treatment and was found to have brain bleeds on both side of his head. While at the hospital, Officers saw what appeared to be a shoe print on Fix’s face.

Later that evening, Officers went to the residence of Joseph Edward Holmes, 242 Parkview Boulevard, Waterloo, IA. Holmes allowed officers to search his residence. During the search, officers found a pair of white tennis shoes with blood on them. The shoe tread on the shoes were consistent with the shoe tread marks on Fix’s face.

Lab officers later took blood swab samples from the shoes and sent them to the DCI lab in Ankeny. On 02-11-13, the DCI lab report was completed matching the DNA blood on the shoes with that of Dennis Fix.

Holmes has been in jail since 01-20-13 on a parole violation. Today, 02-14-13, Holmes was charged with Burglary in the First Degree. Bond on that charge was set at $50,000.00. He is still in the Black Hawk County Jail.
