On Monday, April 8, 2013 at approximately 7:00 PM, Waterloo Police and Waterloo Fire Rescue were dispatched to the 2300 block of Lafayette Street on report of an accident involving a pedestrian.

Police arrived and found that a 8-year-old boy had been struck by a vehicle that was westbound on Lafayette. The vehicle, a 1999 Pontiac Grand Am, was still at the accident scene. According to witnesses, the driver left the scene of the accident on foot.

The child was taken to Covenant Medical Center where he was treated for injuries to his right leg and left arm.

The driver was identified as Justin Neil Varney, age 31, of 1904 Sycamore Street, Waterloo, IA. He has not been located.

Varney also has a warrant for his arrest for Probation Violation. Anyone having information on the whereabouts of Varney are asked to call the Waterloo Police Department at 319-291-2515.
