On Tuesday, November 25, 2014, at approximately 1741 hours, officers were dispatched to 1826 W. 3rd Street for a stabbing in progress. Upon arrival it was found that Shawonyta “Marq” Norman had been stabbed multiple times and later died from those injuries.

As a result of the investigation if was found that Martez Deroy Smith, age 45, had a confrontation with Shawonyta Norman, over a previous assault of Norman’s sister.  During the fight outside of the residence Martez Smith stabbed Shawonyta Norman multiple times.

Today, January 29^th, 2015 Martez Deroy Smith was charged in Black Hawk County District Court for Murder in the 1^st Degree. Smith has been in the Black Hawk County Jail on unrelated charges since the day of the incident, November 25^th, 2014.
