Patch

Waterloo Police Department Officer Chris Gergen recently authored an article; titled "Are You Ready?" that addresses realistic "environmental" type training for law enforcement officers.  The article discusses an officer's level of physical fitness, mental preparation and overall readiness when called on to protect and serve in varying environments, whether it be snow, rain, darkness, etc.  Gergen's article also deals with the various types of equipment officer's use and whether that equipment will work in these challenging conditions.

Gergen had his article published in the January 2009 edition of the Law and Order magazine, a nationally recognized magazine for law enforcement managers.  Several of the articles in this addition deal with physical fitness, equipment evaluations and training scenarios.

Gergen, with nearly twelve-years of service with the Waterloo Police Department, is a certified and recognized defensive tactics instructor, not only for the Waterloo Police Department, but also for the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy in Johnston, Iowa.
