Patch

Waterloo Police officers, along with numerous other Iowa law enforcement agencies, will participate in an Iowa Governor's Traffic Safety Bureau (GTSB) Special Traffic Enforcement Program (sTEP) over the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday travel period, November 23rd-29th, 2009.  This project is the first of five sTEP projects scheduled for the 2009 - 2010 program year.

Officers will focus on speed, seat belt and drunken driving violations.  Iowa's seat belt usage rate has been holding steady at 93%, placing the state in the top ten in the country.  However, the remaining seven percent of Iowans not buckled up pose a much greater risk of serious injury or death.  "Our biggest highway traffic safety challenge remains convincing all motorists to make that 3-second investment to buckle up every trip, every time!" notes Randy Hunefeld, sTEP Coordinator for the GTSB.

Please remember to buckle up, slow down and drive sober every time you travel along Iowa's roadways day or night.
