On Friday, September 9,2011 at approximately 9:57 PM, Waterloo Fire Rescue was dispatched to the area of E.4th and Mulberry on report of loud boom and smoke coming from the top of Morg's Lunch, 520 Mulberry Street. Responding units found no fire or smoke, but the owner of Morg's Lunch was called to the scene so firefighters could check inside the business. No evidence of fire or smoke was found in the building.

On Monday, September 12, 2011 at approximately10:50 AM, Waterloo Police were notified of some suspicious items in the alley just east of Morg's Lunch. Waterloo Police Bomb Unit personnel were called to the scene and located debris from a device that had exploded. There was no evidence of a fire and no damage to the building. Officers did seize the items for further examination to try and determine what was used to make the explosive device.
