Patch

The Waterloo Police Department hopes everyone has a safe and happy holiday season. To help make things safe, use these following tips:

Keep all doors, windows and garage doors closed and locked. All doors should have deadbolt locks. Secure sliding glass doors by placing a wooden dowel or metal pipe in the door track.

At night, have exterior motion sensor lights or leave exterior lights on.

Before you become a victim, write down the serial numbers and model numbers of items and keep a detailed list of all valuables in a safe place.

Do not leave empty television, computer, or other high dollar electronic device boxes at the curb for garbage pick-up. Cut them up and place them inside the garbage container.

Install and test a burglar alarm system. Post signs in conspicuous locations to clearly indicate that the premises are protected by a burglar alarm.

Know your neighbors and look out for each other.

Do not use the social media such as Facebook or Twitter to tell your friends that you will be gone. People reading these messages may not be your friend.

If something looks suspicious, Call the Police!

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!
