On Thursday, April 18, 2019 Waterloo West High School Staff were unable to resolve a situation in the cafeteria involving a 16 year old male.   They requested the School Resource Officer assist them and asked the School Resource Officer to escort the male from the cafeteria.

As the officer attempted to escort the male from the cafeteria the male became resistive and assaulted the police officer, taking the officer to the floor.  The officer was able to handcuff the male with the assistance of school staff and remove him from the building.

The officer involved received injuries during this incident which required medical treatment.   The male was charged with assaulting a police officer causing injury, and later released to his parents.

Waterloo Police are aware of a video circulating on social media showing a small portion of the interaction between the officer and juvenile male.    Waterloo Police are currently working to obtain all the video footage and other relevant information surrounding this incident, to ensure a complete investigation of this incident.

No further information will be released at this time.
