On 08-20-08, the Waterloo Police Department and the Waterloo Fire Department were sent to 1933 Franklin on report of a fire. The investigation determined that the fire had been intentionally set. That investigation led to arson charges being files against two juveniles.

Further investigation into this case and other cases that were reported that same day has resulted in additional charges being filed against Dalton Makenzie Tompkins, age 11, 1811 Franklin Street, Waterloo, IA. Tompkins has now been charged with Arson in the First Degree for a fire that set at 402 Dunham Place.

He is also being charged with Criminal Mischief in the 2nd Degree for damage to eleven vehicles and Burglary in the 3rd Degree (four counts) for items that were stolen from four garages in the surrounding neighborhood.
