On Thursday May 10, 2012 Officers with the Waterloo Police Department's Violent Crime Apprehension Team (VCAT Unit) seized handguns on multiple stops with suspects.  At approximately 9:00pm, Officers made contact with seventeen-year-old Nicholas Lee Redding in the area of E. 4th St. and Ricker St. along with other subjects regarding an investigation.  Upon making contact Officers observed Redding make suspicious movements toward his waistband and he was ordered to the ground.  At that time Officers discovered Redding had a .44 caliber Beretta revolver in his waistband and a quantity of marijuana on his person.  Redding was taken into custody and charged with possession of a firearm as a felon, carrying weapons and possession of marijuana. 

At approximately 11:00pm, Officers with the VCAT Unit conducted a traffic stop in the area of Iowa St. and Saxon St. reference a parking violation.  During the investigation Officers found twenty-three-year-old Daniel Westly Harrington in possession of a .22 long rifle handgun.  Harrington attempted to conceal the firearm as Officers were conducting the traffic stop.  Harrington was charged with possession of a firearm as a felon and carrying weapons.  Harrington is being held at the Black Hawk County Jail on a no bond hold for a parole violation.
