Waterloo Police Will Conduct Alcohol Compliance Checks

Waterloo Police officers will soon be conducting alcohol compliance checks at local businesses to ensure that merchants are selling alcoholic beverages according to the State Code of Iowa.

This Enforcing Under Age Drinking Laws (EUDL) project, which is funded through the Cedar Valley Promise, is intended to help businesses remain compliant with the law.

If a violation were to occur, the fine for the clerk selling the alcohol to a person under the age of 21 is $500.00, plus a $160.00 surcharge and court costs of $50.00 for a total fine of $710.00. The business where the offense occurs is also subject to a civil penalty and suspension of their liquor license.

The Waterloo Police Department’s goal is to work with and educate merchants so they are compliant with the law. Please contact the Waterloo Police Department if you have any questions pertaining to this law.
