Charges Filed Following Amber Alert Activation

On Sunday, April 5, 2026, the Waterloo Police Department requested that the State of Iowa issue an Amber Alert for a missing 12‑year‑old child from Waterloo.  Within approximately one hour, Waterloo Police Detectives were notified that the suspect vehicle had been located by law enforcement in Coloma Township, Michigan, and the child was safe with law enforcement.

Following further investigation, Waterloo Police Detectives have charged Daniyal Khan, age 23, of Ann Arbor, Michigan, in connection with this incident.  Khan has been charged with Kidnapping in the Second Degree, Indecent Contact with a Child, and Sexual Exploitation of a Minor.

Khan was taken into custody and booked into the Berrien County Jail, where he is currently being held.  No additional information will be released at this time, as the investigation remains ongoing.

A criminal charge or warrant is merely an accusation, and a defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
