On Monday, June 16th, 2025, at about 0948 hrs., the Waterloo Police Department was dispatched to 616 Ash Street on the report that a male subject was threatening a utility worker at that location.  Upon arrival, Officers were able to resolve the situation at that time.  At about 1218 hrs., Officers and Waterloo Fire & Rescue were dispatched back to the location on the report that the same male had set a utility pole on fire.  When officers arrived on scene and attempted to make contact with the subject, he barricaded himself inside the residence.  Officers began attempting to communicate with the subject; however, he refused to come out of the house.  With his continued refusal to come out of the residence, the Waterloo Police Department's Tactical Unit was activated.  Over the course of the next several hours negotiations continued. With the male still refusing to surrender, a less lethal option was utilized.  The subject surrendered and was taken into custody without further incident.  This investigation is ongoing at this time.
