UPDATE - July 18th Homicide Victim Identified

On Saturday, July 18, 2026, at approximately 1:05 a.m., Waterloo Police and Waterloo Fire and Rescue were dispatched to 1139 Langley Road for a report of a fight and subsequent stabbing.  Upon arrival, officers located an unresponsive male stabbing victim in a common area of the apartment building.  Lifesaving measures were initiated at the scene, and the victim was transported to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased.

The stabbing victim has been identified as 29-year-old Jeffrey Schmitt of Waterloo.  Waterloo Police Detectives interviewed parties involved and continue to prepare the case for presentation to the Black Hawk County Attorney’s Office for review.
