UPDATE – Valley Lutheran School Administrator Arrested

This release provides updated information regarding the arrest of Valley Lutheran School administrator Lucas Tanney, first announced in the Waterloo Police Department’s press release dated May 29th, 2026.

On May 29th, 2026, detectives filed an additional charge against Tanney. He is now charged with Grooming, a Class D Felony, in addition to the previously announced charge of Sexual Exploitation by a School Employee.

Tanney is currently being held in the Black Hawk County Jail.

The Waterloo Police Department reminds the public that all defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law. No further information will be released at this time as the investigation remains ongoing.
