UPDATE – W. 3rd Street Homicide Victim Identified

September 29, 2026

On Saturday, September 26, 2026, at approximately 10:14 a.m., Black Hawk County Consolidated Dispatch received a 911 call reporting a deceased individual in a bushy area in the 1000 block of West 3rd Street in Waterloo.  Responding officers located the victim’s body, as well as evidence at the scene indicating gunshots had been fired. 

The victim has been identified as 17-year-old Owen Cannon of Waterloo.  Cannon was transported to the Iowa Office of the State Medical Examiner for an autopsy to be completed.  

No further information will be released at this time, as this remains an active and ongoing investigation.
