The City of Waterloo has partnered with DocuPet, a leading pet licensing and lost pet platform, to make it easier than ever for residents to license their pets—while also protecting them with a 24/7 lost pet recovery service.
This new system brings a modern, convenient online experience to pet licensing, while providing real-time lost-and-found support through DocuPet’s HomeSafe® program.
Although pet licensing for cats and dogs is mandatory in Waterloo, many residents do not regularly license their pets. With this launch, the City hopes to change that trend and help more pets return home safely.
“DocuPet’s platform is a game-changer for our community,” said Sergeant Jeff Tyler of the Waterloo Police Department, now overseeing animal control. “It not only makes licensing easier for residents but also plays a critical role in keeping pets out of shelters and reuniting them with their families faster.”
With DocuPet, pet owners can:
- Register pets online at cityofwaterloo.docupet.com
- Choose from hundreds of unique designer tags or create custom designs
- Automatically receive access to HomeSafe®, a 24/7 lost pet service
- Link tags to secure online pet profiles to help community members file found pet reports in seconds
Each pet tag includes a unique code that connects to a pet’s online profile. If a pet goes missing, a Lost Pet Report can be filed immediately. DocuPet’s dispatch team is available around the clock to help get pets home.
New Payment Process
Waterloo residents are encouraged to license their pets online with a credit card either from home or by visiting one of the following locations:
- City of Waterloo: 715 Mulberry St, Waterloo, IA 50703
- Cedar Bend Humane Society: 1166 W Airline Hwy, Waterloo, IA 50703
If residents cannot pay with a credit card and must use cash or check, they have to mail a completed license application (available at cityofwaterloo.docupet.com), along with required documentation (proof of spay/neuter, rabies vaccination) and payment to:
