Waterloo Police Investigate West Mullan Avenue Homicide

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
August 2, 2026

On Sunday, August 2, 2026, at approximately 1:01 a.m., Waterloo Police were dispatched to the parking lot at 516 W. Mullan Avenue for a report of a shooting.  Upon arrival, officers located a male gunshot victim inside a vehicle.  Lifesaving measures were initiated, and the victim was transported to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased.

At this time, the incident appears to be isolated, and there is no active threat to the community.  The victim’s name is being withheld pending notification of family members.  The investigation remains ongoing, and no further details will be released at this time.

Detectives are asking residents and business owners in the immediate area to review any surveillance footage they may have from approximately 12:30 a.m. to 1:15 a.m. and report any observations that may assist the investigation.
