  • The Waterloo Police training unit is comprised of a lieutenant and an officer and utilizes a number of experienced officers, as well as outside experts, as instructors for in-service training
  • In-service classroom training keeps police officers up-to-date on the latest laws, statutes and ordinances as well as familiarizing them with other agencies and departments, such as the Department of Human Services and the County Attorney’s Office to ensure they can work closely together to serve the citizens of Waterloo
  • 6-on-3-off work schedule allows police one full day of training each month
  • In-service Training fills basic state-mandated requirements to maintain state certification such as firearms qualification, Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and National Crime Information Computer (NCIC) certification
  • Specialized Training provides the skills training needed to perform unique tasks such as Canine Handler, Tactical Unit Member, Motorcycle Officer or Crime Lab Investigator. The training unit is also budgeted to send department personnel to specialized schools outside of the department
  • Police Training Center is the former Hewitt Elementary School, remodeled for police training
