The Waterloo Police Department is seeking interest in the position of Reserve Officer. This highly rewarding position is a great opportunity to give back to the community, while gaining excellent training and experience in the law enforcement world.

The position of Reserve Officer is a sworn volunteer position with all the authority and responsibilities of a full-time Officer of the Waterloo Police Department. Reserve Officers are required to purchase their own equipment and must work a minimum of 96 hours per year, or approximately one shift per month. The Waterloo Police Reserve Association may help offset some of the purchase costs with this position.

The hiring process mirrors that of a full-time Officer candidate which includes the initial application, fitness test, panel interview, medical check, polygraph and background investigation.

Newly appointed Reserve Officers must undergo certification training through the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy’s online module training, as well as 120 hours in the Waterloo Police Department’s Field Training Program.

If you think you are up to the challenge, please email our Training Unit at trainingunit@waterloopolice.com to express interest. They will be happy to provide additional information on this exciting opportunity and answer any questions you may have.
